Creeping inflation gives central bank less policy room: The Economist

MANILA - Philippine inflation is "modest" but its steady pick-up is giving monetary authorities less room to maneuver policy, The Economist emerging markets editor Simon Cox said Friday.

Consumer prices are also rising "in the context of a broader credit boom," driven by real estate, which in the past has caused problems for emerging markets, Cox told ANC's Market Edge with Cathy Yang.

The Philippines needs to broaden its capital markets to attract foreign fund inflows at levels comparable to those in India and Indonesia, he said.
