MANILA, Philippines – The Court of Appeals (CA) has ordered Philippine Airlines (PAL) to submit its comment or reply to the petition of the Philippine Airlines Employees Association (PALEA) questioning the legality of the flag carrier's outsourcing plan.

In a minute-resolution, the appellate court's 13th Division directed PAL management to comment on a petition for certiorari filed by PALEA which questioned the decision of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) favoring PAL's outsourcing of some 2,600 jobs in its 3 non-core units to service providers as part of a long-delayed financial restructuring program.

The DOLE's ruling was upheld by the Office of the President (OP).

PAL's outsourcing plan took effect last October 1 where Sky Logistics, Sky Kitchen, and Manny Pangilinan-led SPi Global formally took over the airline's ground handling, catering, and call center reservations functions, respectively, amid a wildcat strike by PALEA members.
