MANILA - UnionBank clients can now "lock" their EON-branded cards, adding another layer of security as banks tighten measures against fraud, the lender said Tuesday.

A card can be locked using the bank's mobile app and while the feature is active, its counterpart account will be inaccessible to criminals, the bank said in a statement.

"The lock card feature is designed to deter fraudsters from stealing money from a user’s account via card fraud," the bank said.

While the card is locked, the account owner will also receive e-mail and text alerts when a transaction is attempted, the bank said.
