MANILA - Aboitiz InfraCapital Inc on Friday said it was granted the Original Proponent Status (OPS) by the Department of Transportation (DOTr) for the operations and maintenance of the new Bohol International Airport.
The OPS includes the operations and maintenance, future developments and expansion of the new airport in Panglao Island, AIC told the stock exchange.
“We believe our proposal provides an expedient and comprehensive solution for the immediate and long-term needs of the New Bohol International Airport. We also remain committed and ready to support the government in its initiative to develop and enhance other regional airports throughout the country" AIC president and CEO Sabin Aboitiz said.
The new Bohol International Airport is "a key catalyst towards unlocking the tourism potential of Bohol" with its much larger capacity, ACI said. It is intended to replace the current airport in Tagbilaran City, which is currently serving under one million passengers per year.
Authorities said the new airport is set to open later this year.
Aboitiz InfraCapital is also part of the NAIA Consortium that was granted with the OPS for the rehabilitation of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.
