MANILA – Twelve new bridges including the construction of a new Estrella – Pantaleon bridge were proposed under the government’s traffic management plan to further ease traffic congestion in Metro Manila, an official said Monday.

Roads and arteries under the Metro Manila Logistics Infrastructure Network are utilized by 1.3 million vehicles daily and the new bridges crossing the Pasig River, Marikina River and the Manggahan floodway will ease congestion, Anna Mae Lamentillo, chairperson of the DPWH's Build, Build, Build Committee, told DZMM.

“Napagdesisyunan gamit ang ating management study na magdadagdag ng 12 bridges sa area for further decongestion,” Lamentillo said.

(It was decided using our management study to add 12 new bridges for further decongestion.)

The construction of Binondo-Intramuros link is about to commence while the construction of the 633-meter BGC-Ortigas Center link is underway, she said.

The Estrella – Pantaleon bridge was closed Sunday to give way to construction work. In a statement, Secretary Mark Villar said the bridge will be accessible to the public by 2020.

It is one of two China Grant-Aid bridges financed through a bilateral cooperation with the Republic of the Philippines, DPWH said.
