Berjaya eyes deal to distribute Mazda vehicles in PH

MANILA, Philippines - Berjaya Auto Philippines (BAP) is eyeing a deal to become the official distributor of Mazda vehicles in the Philippines.

In a disclosure to the stock exchange, BAP said it is planning to enter into a distributorship agreement with Japan's Mazda Motor Corp. for the right to import and distribute Mazda vehicles in the country.

Also, BAP said BMIL, a subsidiary of Bermaz Motor, offered to infuse P125.4 million in fresh capital in exchange for a 60% stake in the company.

BerMaz Motor, a joint venture between the Berjaya Group and Mazda Motor, is the sole distributor of Mazda branded vehicles in Malaysia.

Berjaya Group, one of the biggest conglomerates in Malaysia, has various interests in the Philippines such as gaming through Philippine Gaming Management Corp., hotel through Berjaya Manila Hotel, and food and beverage through Papa John’s Pizza.
