MANILA, Philippines - Maynilad Water Services Inc. is allocating P110 million to replace 24 kilometers of old, leaking pipes in Caloocan City.

The pipe replacement project is expected to improve water service levels for nearly 55,000 people in 20 barangays in the area. Water pressure will increase from the current level of 10 pounds per square inch (psi) to 16 psi.

The project will also allow the recovery of some 22 million liters of water a day, enough to supply the daily requirement of almost 36,000 households.

"We continue to invest in the rehabilitation and replacement of the deteriorated pipes we inherited. This project is expected to prevent further loss of water, avoid water contamination, and give our customers in Caloocan the service levels they deserve," said Maynilad president and CEO Ricky P. Vargas.

Maynilad is the concessionaire for the West Zone in greater Metro Manila.
