MANILA -- Cristalle Belo-Pitt, who heads her family's cosmetics business, said she and her mother, beauty doctor to the stars Vicki Belo, built their empire in "bedroom meetings" at the end of long work days.

It's those nightly informal catch-ups that Belo-Pitt misses the most since moving out in 2016 to start her own family.

"Ang tawag namin bedroom meeting siya (We call it bedroom meeting) We slept on the same bed until the time I got married. The only time we really see each other is when we wind down. So I tell her ‘Ok mommy this is what happened’ and now that I’m married that’s the thing I miss the most," Belo-Pitt said during a business forum in Pasay City.

"Our bedroom meeting it’s a relaxed setting where all our ideas come out," she said.
Belo-Pitt, currently managing director of Belo Essentials, joined the family business roughly a year after she graduated from college. While lacking in corporate experience at that time, she said she had big dreams for the Belo brand.

"My vision was to make beauty and the Belo expertise affordable to the mass market that’s why we made it available in supermarkets, grocery stores and drugstores," Belo-Pitt said.

One important thing she learned from her mother, who tries every single product and procedure on herself before offering in it her clinics, is that she has to curate the best "menu" for the consumers, Belo-Pitt said.

"It’s really about keeping your product listing streamlined and more than that is to have good positioning… Make sure that before you launch you need to have a clear positioning on where your product stands," she said.

Her mother's playful approach gave her room to learn and to make mistakes, she said.

"Growing up I've learned that I was lucky because when I put up Belo Essentials, I don't think she took me seriously. In her mind, this is Cristalle's way of playing," Belo-Pitt said.

"There is trust and respect, trust that I have enough room to play with so that I can experiment on my own but the best life lesson are learned through failure," she said.
