MANILA - An image of a dark blue Samsung Galaxy Note 8 and a full press render of LG's V30, both unofficial, were leaked Thursday by tech journalist Evan Blass.
Blass, @evleaks on Twitter, has a track record for correctly leaking smartphone images ahead of the official announcement, most recently, Samsung's early 2017 flagship S8.
The "deep sea blue" color variant will be new for Samsung, which has offered a pale "coral blue" version for this year's S8 and S8 Plus and last year's ill-fated Note 7. Earlier leaks showed a dual camera setup at the back, a first for the Korean electronics giant.
LG's V30 looks like a supersized version of its G6, but with rounded corners and shiny bezels. It retains the same dual camera setup from the G6 and last year's V30, which is capable of wide-angle shots.
Samsung will officially unveil the Note 8 next week, with LG scheduled to take the wraps off the V30 the following week. Both handsets are expected to continue the tall screen trend started by the S8 and G6 earlier this year.
Apple is widely expected to announce its 10th anniversary iPhone in September, which is also expected to adopt the 18:9 aspect ratio for easier one-handed use.
