MANILA - There will be a "marked acceleration" in government spending in the second half, as President Rodrigo Duterte rolls out his P8-trillion infrastructure program, one of his economic managers said Thursday.
The economy grew 6.5 percent in the April to June period, as a spike in government spending offset a slowdown in private investments.
"We can expect some marked acceleration in government spending in the third and fourth quarter because many of the projects are already in the bidding stage," Pernia said, citing the Clark Airport project as example.
"There will be more activity, building activity in the coming quarters... There's already double-digit (growth in) public construction. Next year, definitely, there will be a flurry of construction," he said.
