MANILA, Philippines - The Department of Energy visited various gas stations in Metro Manila to test fuel for possible contamination due to massive flooding in the metropolis.
Personnel from the DOE took samples of diesel and gasoline to be tested in their laboratory for water contamination.
Energy Secretary Jose Rene Almendras earlier ordered the inspection folowing complaints that gasoline filled in a motorcycle had water content.
Celso Bagabaldo, senior science research specialist of the DOE said that at first glance, the samples taken from a Shell station in Mindanao Avenue looks pure and uncontaminated. He said they will still take samples to the laboratory for further testing.
Bagabaldo advised motorists to avoid gas stations that were inundated by flood waters in the meantime just to be safe.
