MANILA - Telecom equipment maker Ericsson said it is confident that fifth generation mobile technology or 5G will be introduced in the Philippines as early as next year.
"I think you will see the next generation technologies in the Philippines in the next year, definitely. And then it will be a gradual rollout," said Martin Wiktorin, head of Ericsson Philippines in an interview with ANC's Market Edge.
Wiktorin said 5G mobile will give rise to new opportunities in the digitalization of business processes, and allow the wider adoption of smart connected devices, also known as IoT or the "internet of things."
He said 5G will also allow new technologies like virtual reality communication, as well as augmented reality.
