MANILA - A mass at 8 a.m. and a novena prayer were offered for the late President Aquino in Malacañang Palace on Wednesday.

President Arroyo, Cabinet officials and employees attended the mass, which was held at the Heroes' Hall and officiated by Fr. Jerome Secilliano.

President Arroyo reportedly read the novena prayer.

She immediately proceeded to the Manila Cathedral where Mrs. Aquino's remains were, after she returned from her US trip on Wednesday dawn.

The two lady presidents were at odds politically. Mrs. Aquino previously asked President Arroyo to step down from power after allegations of cheating in the 2004 national elections surfaced.
