MANILA – Business advocacy group Go Negosyo, together with an alliance of some of the country’s leading tech companies, renewed their push on Tuesday for businesses to embrace digitalization.

The “Angat Lahat sa Digital Alliance" now has over 50 member companies, including some of the biggest digital firms today such as Lazada, Shopee, Angkas, Cashalo, GCash and Lalamove, among others, the group said.

The alliance would be officially launched in the coming months, said Go Negosyo adviser Josephine Romero, who is also senior adviser to the ASEAN Business Advisory Council Philippines.

One of main goals of the alliance is to promote the benefits of digitalization, she said.

“It’s an industry association where you look at what your common pains are, and common strengths are, and use that to your advantage,” Romero said.

Firms in the alliance will work to address issues in various fields such as transportation, agribusiness, services, and government regulations, she added.

The group also tapped Globe Telecom, since connectivity is vital in pushing micro, small and medium entrepreneurs to go digital, Romero said.

Globe meanwhile admitted that it is also facing challenges, particularly the lengthy process of securing permits for building cell sites.

Globe CEO Ernest Cu said it takes 20 permits to produce one cell site, and that getting all these permits takes longer than building the cell site itself.

"We need more sites, if not, this party stops,” said Cu.

The alliance will be holding more events in the coming months to raise awareness and to help companies realize the benefits of digitalization, Romero added.
