MANILA -- Mall owners should allot prime space to homegrown restaurants to help them compete with foreign chains, a Filipino restaurateur said Wednesday.

The ground floors, entrances and exits that are frequented by mall goers are usually occupied by global brands, said Adobo Connection managing director and co-founder Meredith Ngo.

"I would actually like to appeal to the malls to have more consideration and give more importance to the local homegrown brands especially if we can compete," Ngo told ANC's Early Edition.

The Philippine Retailers Association earlier said it would ask mall owners to place local brands on the ground level of shopping centers to help Filipino fashion and retail brands arrest "slowing" sales.
