MANILA – The Monetary Board has approved the appointment of a new  deputy governor for supervision and examination, Bangko Sentral Governor Nestor Espenilla said Thursday.

Espenilla said Deputy Governor Chuchi Fonacier will take over his former position at the BSP. Espenilla took over as governor from Amando Tetangco Jr earlier this month.

Fonacier's office handles examination of financial institutions, promotion of financial literacy, consumer affairs, financial data collection and policy studies.

A career central banker, Fonacier started out in the BSP as a bank examiner in 1984.

She was the BSP's point person in efforts to craft the Securitization Act, and the Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) Act.
