The Filipino founder of an artificial intelligence (AI) start-up said government agencies and private companies can make better decisions when these are based on data.
Stephanie Sy, founder of Thinking Machines, said that for instance, improving traffic flow in Metro Manila would benefit greatly from data science.
She said that decisions like choosing where to deploy flood pumps and personnel, or turning a 1-way road into a 2 way road, all need to be backed by data.
Sy, on Tuesday, was attending the Forbes Under 30 Summit in Hong Kong, where she was named among 5 young Filipinos who are disrupting industries.
"I wanted to come back, have some impact and try to build it in the Philippines. I think we have the potential to become a high-tech nation," Sy said in an interview with ANC's Market Edge.
