Twitter Inc on Thursday said its microblogging platform was back up partially after suffering a worldwide outage for more than an hour.

Chief executive officer Jack Dorsey said in a tweet:

The interruption was due to an internal system change, the company said, adding that it was working to fully fix the problem.

Outage tracking website earlier showed that there were nearly 70,000 people across the globe reporting issues with Twitter.

The site also showed a series of outage reports starting at 1846 GMT, concentrated in Europe, North America and Japan.

Users trying to access Twitter saw a message saying: "Something is technically wrong."

The outage occurred as US President Donald Trump convened what he called a "social media summit" where conservative critics of Silicon Valley were expected to voice grievances.

Trump, who has more than 60 million followers on Twitter and uses the platform extensively, nonetheless has complained that it suppresses some political viewpoints.

Earlier this month Facebook experienced an outage of several hours due to what the company said was a bug triggered by a maintenance operation.

Shares were last down nearly 1% at $37.12 in afternoon trading. (Reporting by Munsif Vengattil in Bengaluru; Editing by Anil D'Silva)
