MANILA - Light Rail Manila Corp. (LRMC) on Wednesday said it has started expansion works for the EDSA Station of the LRT Line 1, boosting safety and convenience for passengers.
The passenger concourse of the busiest station will be widened to more than 400 square meters from 70 sqm, LMRC president and CEO Juan Alfonso said in a statement.
“Queuing areas, and unpaid areas will be expanded to handle increased passenger flow," Alfonso said.
"LRMC aims to improve the customer experience and continue to improve the quality of people’s transport commute," he added.
The expansion is also designed to accommodate the anticipated increase in ridership once the Cavite Extension is completed, he said.
EDSA Station serves over 52,000 passengers on weekdays and the queuing area is now "inadequate" for riders during peak hours, the LRMC said.
