MANILA -- The Department of Trade and Industry said Thursday it lifted the cap on the purchase of essential goods and people would be allowed to buy disinfectants in higher quantities.

Limits on the purchase of small bottled water, canned goods, toilet paper, bread, and instant noodles, among others, were removed, the DTI said, nearly a month into the easing of coronavirus lockdowns.

The purchase caps for disinfectant alcohol, hand sanitizers, disinfecting liquids and N95 and N88 masks were also eased as follows:

  •  Disinfecting alcohol - 5 bottlers for 1 liter and below, 3 bottles for more than 1 liter)
  •  Hand sanitizer - 5 bottles (1 liter and below), 3 bottles for more than 1 liter
  •  Disinfecting liquids - 5 bottles (1 liter and below), 3 bottles for more than 1 liter
  •  Face masks - 1 box of 50 pieces

During the lockdown, people were allowed to buy 2 units at a time of disinfectant alcohol, disinfectant liquids and hand sanitizers. Face mask purchases were limited to 5 pieces at a time for N95 and N88 variants, the DTI said.

The DTI said suppliers assured the government of ample supply.

"The recurrence of hoarding by businesses and panic buying by consumers is no longer a threat," the DTI said.
