MANILA, Philippines - Maynilad Water Services Inc. has brought down its non-revenue water (NRW) level to 53% as of June 1 from 61% during the same period last year, after it repaired leaks in its concession area.

NRW is water lost to illegal connections and leakage.

"Maynilad was able to address over 29,000 leaks compared to a little over 10,000 leaks during the same period in 2009. The 190% increase in resolved leaks translated to nearly 109 million liters a day of recovered water," the company said.

Maynilad, which distributes water in the west zone of Metro Manila, is pursuing an aggressive NRW reduction program with a P1.5-billion budget.

The company eyes to bring down its NRW level to 40% by 2012.
