Maynilad says June bill to reflect actual lockdown consumption

MANILA - Maynilad Water Services Inc said Thursday water bills in June would reflect the actual meter reading and consumption during the lockdown period.

Consumption from March to May, as well as the consumption for this month, will be included in the "transitional" water bill after physical meter reading resumed on June 1, Maynilad said in a statement.

Only one printed bill will be distributed from March to June, it said. Payments made during the lockdown will be subtracted from the latest total, it said.

Metro Manila transitioned to general community quarantine with looser restrictions at the start of the month.

A grace period was extended for customers who consumer 10 cubic meters per month or less until Aug. 31 while those who consume more than 10 cubic meters per month have until July 31, Maynilad said.

Customers can pay their accumulated bills in several installments within the extended grace period, Maynilad said.

Bills for areas still under lockdown will be computed based on their average consumption, 3 months prior to ECQ, it said.

The Bayanihan to Heal as One Act, the country's coronavirus response law, mandated landlords, banks, and utility providers, among others, to extend grace periods for bills covering the lockdown period.
