MANILA, Philippines - The Bureau of Customs (BOC) filed smuggling charges against the owner of Cren Trading "who tried to spirit out of the Port of Davao two high-end vehicles that were misdeclared as used furniture."
Aiza Magallanes Makig-angay, whose container shipment from Japan last January 28 yielded a GM Hummer 2 and a 5.7L V8 Toyota Tundra, was charged before the Department of Justice (DOJ) Thursday.
In a new conference, Customs Commissioner Angelito Alvarez said the vehicles had an assessed value of over P1 million.
"For trying to save some money by cheating the government, Makig-angay now stands to lose the equivalent of more than P3 million she spent on her car importation," Alvarez said.
