MANILA — A member of an inter-agency task force on the coronavirus pandemic said Thursday it recommended that the loosest quarantine continue to prohibit traditional jeepneys, which may eventually be used for deliveries only.

The task force is urging President Rodrigo Duterte to allow mass transportation, "except [the] traditional jeepney," under the modified general community quarantine or GCQ, said Interior Secretary Eduardo Año.

"Marami pang aayusin d'yan [sa jeepney] kasi kita mo naman d'yan, violated lahat ng health standard," he told DZMM.

"Baka nga ang mangyayari d'yan, later on iyong mga jeepney natin magiging mga delivery vehicles na lang, ang iba ay dadalhin sa probinsya," he added.

(A lot needs to be fixed there. As you can see, all health standards are violated there. Perhaps, later on our jeepneys will just serve as delivery vehicles, some will be brought to the provinces.)

The task force recommended Metro Manila to be placed under general quarantine, which is a level above the modified GCQ, Año said.

The general quarantine will allow the MRT and LRT train lines, and tricycles with one passenger, he said.

City buses and modern jeepneys will be "calibrated" to follow health standards, he added.

Some provincial buses will be allowed to operate "station-to-station" with their passengers required to leave contact details for easier tracing, Año said.
