MANILA - The Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System said Friday it approved the bulk water supply project of billionaire Enique Razon's Prime Infra.
The Wawa Bulk Water Supply project is expected to generate over 500 million liters per day of supply by 2025. At least 80 mld will be available to East Zone consumers of Manila Water as early as 2021, the MWSS said in a statement.
The project, a private arrangement between Manila Water, WawaJVCo and joint venture company of Prime Infra and San Lorenzo Ruiz Builders Group, will boost Manila Water's current production by about 30 percent, MWSS administrator Reynaldo Velaso said.
“It is among the priority initiatives committed to President Rodrigo Duterte in addressing the current water supply deficit which government resources cannot afford, and this is the reason why a private sector-led development of bulk supply of water was sought,” said Velasco.
The Office of the Government Corporate Counsel is reviewing the terms of the agreement, the MWSS said.
MWSS said it was considering other water sources projects to augment supply.
