MANILA - Presumptive president Rodrigo Duterte on Monday said he will appoint a former classmate as the next transportation and communications chief.

Duterte said he wants businessman Arthur Tugade, his former classmate in San Beda College Law, to be the secretary of the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC).

"My classmate sa law school, who was our valedictorian, Art Tugade, will get the DOTC. He’s good," the Davao City mayor said in a press conference.

Tugade, who is also from Davao, is the founder of the Perry’s Group of Companies, which has businesses in logistics, farming, fuel distribution, trucking, travel and fashion.

In 2012, Tugade was appointed by President Aquino as chief executive officer and president of Clark Development Corp.

Duterte said he has already offered the post of finance chief to his friend, Sonny Dominguez.

"He had so many misgivings in the past about my offer, but I hope he would reconsider and accept it. He's going to get the finance department," said Duterte.

Dominguez had stints in the Department of Agriculture and Department of Environment and Natural Resources during the administration of Cory Aquino.

Duterte finished law in San Beda College in 1972. He is the first Philippine president from San Beda College.
