MANILA - (UPDATED) The Bank of the Philippine Islands confirmed that its electronic channels, including automated teller machines (ATMs), encountered some problems on Sunday.
Hundreds of BPI clients posted complaints on the bank's Facebook page, saying they could not use its ATMs or their debit cards.
BPI earlier advised clients that it would undertake a system maintenance on Sunday, from 12 to 5 a.m., which would affect debit transactions using ATMs and POS terminals, prepaid card withdrawals and credit card cash advance transactions.
In a statement, BPI said its ATMs and related services were temporarily unavailable due a "technical issue," but majority of ATMs have been restored as of 3 p.m.
"Rest assured that we will continue to monitor our systems to ensure uninterrupted service to all our clients. We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your understanding," the bank added.
As of 5 p.m., BPI said all its ATMs and related services have been restored.
