MANILA - The rise of artificial intelligence will create more job opportunities, compared to positions that it will replace, the head of the Asian Development Bank said Thursday.

Governments should retrain workers to adapt to the shift to AI and assist those who might be displaced, ADB President Takehiko Nakao told reporters.

"We may have more opportunities for jobs than just losing these jobs... Usually, the automation, AI can just do some tasks... There may be elements in one job that we cannot easily automate," Nakao said.

"We need policy to support people who are behind on these technological developments. Some people might lose jobs and they can't easily find new jobs," he said.

Officials in the Philippines, which rivals India as the world's top outsourcing destination, have flagged similar concerns about the need for workers to prepare for the shift to AI.
