MANILA -- Mobile wallet GCash is moving into lifestyle payments such as movie tickets after growing its active user base 5 times in the last 18 months, parent company Mynt said Thursday.
GCash has 20 million registered customers, who can pay using QR codes in 50,000 merchants, Mynt CEO Anthony Thomas told The Briefing on ANC's Market Edge.
"Our approach really is to make everyday payments easy," Thomas said.
Chinese tech billionaire Jack Ma, whose Ant Financial is invested in Mynt, has been a "great accelerator," with GCash benefiting from Ant's Alipay, he said.
Mynt's other shareholders include Globe Telecom and Ayala Corp.
