MANILA - The government has set aside P17 billion for the country's chairmanship and hosting of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) this year.

This was confirmed by ASEAN 2017 National Organizing Council chair Marciano Paynor on Monday.

Manila's hosting of the ASEAN comprises a total of 137 meetings.

This is composed of 2 summits, 17 ministerial meetings, 42 senior officials' meetings and 76 technical working group meetings.

The 30th ASEAN summit will be held at the Philippine International Convention Center in Pasay City from April 26 to 29.

Another summit is scheduled on November and is expected to be bigger with United States President Donald Trump expected to attend.

According to Department of Interior and Local Government Officer-in-Charge Catalino Uy, P2 billion will be used for security.

"Majority of the budget would be for meals ng personnel na idedeploy natin, yung mga rentals ng VIP cars, mga billeting ng ating personnel, yung movement," he said.
