MANILA, Philippines - The Ayala group is looking for foreign and local partners for its venture into digital television.

Steve Macion, president of Globe's Broadcast Enterprises and Affiliated Media (BEAM), says generating in-house content is too risky and is not their expertise.

Macion says they will instead look for partners here and abroad to generate content for up to six free TV channels.

This is similar to the setup of Solar Entertainment, which relies on content from abroad for its cable channels.

Macion says they will try to provide everything for their viewers -- from news to entertainment.

He adds eventually some of the content may be shared with Globe for broadcast via mobile and the internet.

Globe is spending P200 million to upgrade broadcasting facilities it bought as early as 2009, controlled under BEAM and a second company called Altimax.

Macion says the upgrade should be done in two to three years. - ANC
