MANILA - Communist Party of the Philippines founder Jose Ma. Sison on Thursday welcomed Environment Secretary Gina Lopez's plan to tap rebel fighters for peace and development projects.
Sison said Lopez's plan was "directly related" to the agrarian reform and rural development goals of peace negotiations between the government and the National Democratic Front of the Philippines, the rebels' political arm.
"As Chief Political Consultant of the NDFP, I declare the following: The desire of Gina Lopez to work with the NPA for peace and development is welcome by the NDFP," Sison said in a Facebook post.
Sison said he would welcome Lopez's attendance in the fifth round of formal talks in June.
