MANILA - The Department of Budget and Management said Friday it released P8.5 billion to increase the production capacity of rice farmers as the nation battles the COVID-19 pandemic.

Around 3 million farmers nationwide will benefit from the rice resiliency program, which involves fertilizer support and seed distribution during the wet season as well as the distribution of high-yield hybrid rice seeds, the DBM said.

The amount released last April 16 will fund the requirements for the Rice Resiliency Project (RRP) under the DA's Ahon Lahat, Pagkaing Sapat (ALPAS) Kontra COVID-19 program, it said.

The Bayanihan to Heal as One Act, the country's coronavirus response law, ensured aid for the most vulnerable sectors, including agriculture.
