MANILA - Some 3.4 million employees of small businesses are entitled to receive cash aid that is aimed at the middle class, the Department of Finance said Thursday.

Beneficiaries qualify if their companies are not included in the Bureau of Internal Revenue's large taxpayers list , Finance Asec. Antonio Lambino said in a press briefing.

Those who missed at least 2 weeks worth of payroll can also avail of cash aid, along with those who were forced to stop or go on partial operations, he said.

"For small business alam natin ang cash flow nila ay maninipis kumpara sa malalaking negosyo kaya po sa ngayon medyo mahihirapan na po na bigyan ng sweldo ang kanilang manggagawa," Lambino said.

(Small businesses have thinner cash flow compared to big firms and now it would be difficult for them to pay their workers)

The government recently approved a wage subsidy program for small businesses that aims to distribute some P51 billion cash aid to middle class employees.
