MANILA - Lazada said Thursdaydemand for its grocery delivery service rose up to 15 times during the Luzon lockdown that forced millions to stay in their homes.

Canned goods, rice, personal hygiene items, disinfectants and medical supplies are the most popular items on LazMart, Lazada Philippines CEO Ray Alimurung told ANC.

Lazada is currently recruiting sellers of fresh food and frozen goods, he said.

"We’re going to continue to meet the needs of the customers whether it’s essential goods or the lockdown moves into a wider category assortment," Alimurung said.

Motorcycle deliveries are allowed to operate despite restrictions during the enhanced community quarantine period to enable flow of goods from operating stores to homes.

Riders continue to practice social distancing, disinfection and regular temperature checks to reduce the risk of contracting the disease, he said. Cashless payments is encouraged, he said.

Lazada also launched a P100 million support program to help sellers recover losses from the coronavirus pandemic, Alimurung said.
