SAN FERNANDO, La Union - Local flights to Basco, Batanes from this city will become available next year, eliminating the need for travelers from northern Luzon to go to Manila to catch trips to the famous tourist destination, 2 firms offering the trips said Sunday.
The Association of Tourism Industries and Networks (ATIN) and the Leading Edge International Aviation Corporation (LEIASCOR) on May 3 are set to hold the maiden San Fernando-Basco test flight.
LEIASCOR will provide the Fokker 50 plane that has a maximum capacity of 50 passengers. The trip will only take 45 minutes to one hour.
Each trip costs P18,888 inclusive of meals, tour guide, accommodation, and land transfer.
The maiden flight is already fully booked. The next trip is scheduled in January 2020.
"We are monitored by CAAP (Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines)," said LEIASCOR marketing manager Allan Ballesteros.
"We also applied for a permit and nandoon na yung (it already includes the) safety, security and convenience [clearance]," he added.
ATIN also plans to offer flights to Davao, Bohol, and other tourist spots in the south from La Union, said company vice president Lorie Jane Rosales.
