MANILA--After pledging P100 million for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) relief efforts, the Gokongwei Brothers Foundation said it has started to dispense financial assistance to different hospitals as frontliners battle to contain the spread of the disease.

In a statement, the foundation said it has started distributing financial and in-kind donation to Philippine General Hospital, Lung Center of the Philippines, and the Dr. Jose N. Rodriguez Memorial Hospital and Sanitarium.

“In these extraordinary times more than ever, we in the private sector recognize the need to complement the government’s programs and efforts by directly ensuring that our health care providers receive all the necessary support for them to be able to carry out their vital duties," Grace Colet, the group's executive director said as quoted in the statement.

In-kind donations include "essential personal protective equipment (PPE) such as N95 and surgical masks, face shields, and nitrile gloves for frontline doctors and healthcare workers; hospital equipment, such as ventilators; and supplies, such as alcohol and vitamins."

Public hospitals "attending to a significantly high number of COVID-19 patients" will also receive supplies, the foundation said.

The UP Medical Foundation has also received cash donations for procuring PPEs for some 300 hospitals nationwide.

The fund was also used as donation to "Project Ugnayan" a fundraiser seeking to help communities greatly affected by the enhanced community quarantine.
