MANILA – Maynilad Water Services Inc. has started the realignment of a major water pipeline along Juan Luna and Hermosa streets in Tondo, Manila to give way to a flood interceptor project of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

Engr. Ronaldo Padua, Maynilad's head of water supply operation, said around 2.2 meters of its pipeline will be cut and re-positioned below the DPWH project.

Maynilad has deployed equipment with Malaysian technology that will halt the flow of water from the other end of the cut pipe to prevent the shutdown of the whole line.

The only affected customers will be those living in several areas in Southern Metro Manila like Pasay, Paranaque and Las Pinas cities.

Maynilad said the affected customers are around 107,000, but instead of the whole 72 hours with no water supply, the affected areas will only experience 28 hours of water interruption at the most.

Padua said 24 tankers will be on standby to respond to request for water supply. He said the advisory was issued earlier to make sure customers have already stored water.

Padua is reminding customers affected to expect discoloration once the water supply resumes.

The complete list of affected areas is found on Maynilad's website, www.maynilad.com.ph.
