MANILA - San Miguel Corp said on Monday it was looking to buy P500 million worth of personal protective equipment for frontliners in the fight against COVID-19.

"We are hoping to fill the gap and continue supporting our government in whatever way we can,” said San Miguel president and COO Ramon Ang.

Ang urged domestic manufacturers to retool their facilities to ramp up production of PPEs. He said the government should provide the private sector with technical specifications.

"And we need to streamline the certification and approval processes so that those who wish to respond can immediately provide the supplies our medical front liners need."

The company recently revived the vitamin-enriched Nutribun bread for distribution to communities, while subsidiary Ginebra San Miguel retooled its liquor plants nationwide to produce disinfectant alcohol.
