MANILA, Philippines - Even after Mamasapano stoked opposition to the Bangsamoro Basic Law and the autonomous region it would create, the Makati Business Club continues to push for it.
On the anniversary of the signing of a key peace agreement, the association of the country's biggest businesses said some people are using Mamasapano for political purposes, and Congress shouldn't fall prey to that.
"We respectfully urge Congress to not allow revisions that would contravene these values. As the nation steadily moves forward from this tragedy, we must not allow political manipulation to take advantage of the legitimate grief and emotion that continues to pervade the public's consciousness," Makati Business Club said.
The Senate has suspended hearings on the Bangsamoro, as various groups questioned whether the government should be dealing with the MILF, when they don't control other Muslim groups in the area, including a breakaway group blamed for abuses inflicted on police offers in Mamasapano. - ANC
