MANILA - The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) promised to assist the family of its 3 employees who died in the fire that engulfed the Manila Pavilion Hotel and Casino in Ermita on Sunday.

Carmelita Valdez, PAGCOR's assistant vice president for communications, said the 3 employees died inside the treasury office because the standard operating procedure requires them to secure their assets before leaving.

Valdez said PAGCOR is offering its sincerest condolences to the family of the fire victims. She said PAGCOR officials will hold a dialogue with them to address their concerns.

Initial reports from the authorities said 4 died in the fire that began at around 9 a.m. But doctors at the Manila Doctors Hospital were able to revive one of the fatalities.

Two other PAGCOR employees are still in critical condition due to the fire, according to Valdez, while all 68 other employees have been accounted for. She assured displaced employees that they will still receive their salaries.

Valdez is calling for a full investigation on the fire. -- report from Jeck Batallones, ABS-CBN News
