MANILA – San Miguel Corp. confirmed on Monday that it has expanded its packaging business in Australia.

The firm said its packaging business, San Miguel Yamamura Packaging International Ltd. (SMYPIL), has acquired Vinocor Worldwide Direct Pty. Ltd.

Vinocor is a supplier of wine closures such as corks, screw caps, and hoods as well as customized bottles.

“The acquisition will enable the packaging business of the SMC Group to expand its operations in Australia and New Zealand,” SMC said in a disclosure to the stock exchange.

The acquisition was completed through SMC’s Australian unit SMYV Pty. Ltd.

San Miguel Yamamura Packaging Corp. is the country’s largest packaging company. It also has facilities in Malaysia, Vietnam, and China through SMYPIL.

SMYPC and SMYPIL are joint ventures of San Miguel Corp. and Japan’s Nihon Yamamura Glass Co. Ltd.
