MANILA – The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) has padlocked a catering service establishment in Quezon City for allegedly violating tax laws.

BIR said Margie & Gigi Catering Services was shut down after it was found to have violated the Value Added Tax (VAT) Law for failure to register as VAT taxpayer and for failure to pay the corresponding deficiency VAT covering taxable years from 2011 to 2013.

It added that the catering service, owned by Margarita Capus Tan, has been filing its monthly percentage tax returns, and continued filing despite exceeding the VAT threshold amount.

The deficiency VAT liability of the catering service was estimated at P1.32 million for 2011 to 2013.

According to Revenue District Office No. 39, South Quezon City Revenue District Officer Florante Aninag, the closure was recommended after the establishment failed to rectify its violations and to settle its VAT liabilities despite repeated demands from his district office.

The closure was effected after it failed to comply with the requirements specified in the 48-hour Notice and the 5-day VAT Compliance Notice of the BIR.
