MANILA, Philippines - Outgoing Trade Secretary Peter Favila will be extending his stay in the Monetary Board after President Arroyo appointed him to replace private sector representative Raul Boncan whose term was supposed to end in 2014.

While chief of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Favila was appointed as Cabinet representative to the MB in 2008. He was co-terminus with Mrs. Arroyo, who will step down from office on June 30.

Favila's fresh appointment will allow him to serve for another 4 years until the next administration.

Previously, former Press Secretary Ignacio Bunye, one of the longest-running Cabinet officials of the Arroyo government, was also appointed to the MB.

Mrs. Arroyo has tapped Education Secretary Jesli Lapus to replace Favila as DTI secretary while Presidential Adviser on Education Mona Valisno will now handle the education portfolio.

Meanwhile, recently-appointed Cabinet secretaries took their oaths on Monday morning.

Leandro Mendoza was sworn in as executive secretary, Alberto Agra as justice chief, Bernie Fondevilla as agriculture secretary, Elena Bautista as Presidential Management staff chief, Jake Lagonera as budget secretary.

Rogelio Pejuan was also sworn in as the new director-general of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA). -- Report from ANC
