MANILA -- Small and medium enterprises or SME's are in a "better" state under President Rodrigo Duterte, a reelectionist senator said Sunday.
"Sa mga SME po, sa mga small and medium enterprises, mas maganda 'yung pagpapatakbo ngayon," Sen. Bam Aquino said during "Harapan 2019: The ABS-CBN Senatorial Town Hall Debate"
Aquino, who is from the opposition ticket Otso Diretso, was asked what he likes best about the Duterte administration.
Aquino is the author of Republic Act 10644 or Go Negosyo Act that mandates the creation of "Negosyo Centers" to support start-up businesses in each city and municipality around the country.
Before joining politics, Aquino was youth leader and social entrepreneur.
Duterte in 2017 rolled out a P1-billion loan fund for small businessmen, to help spur economic activity in the country’s poorest regions and wean Filipinos away from loan sharks.
Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry president George Barcelon earlier lauded the administration's SME initiatives.
“Finally, we have a president who understands the needs of the MSMEs, which is financing,” Barcelon told ANC in a 2017 interview.
