MANILA – San Miguel Corp on Monday said its unit Private Infra Development Corp (PDIC) will advance payment for the unpaid portion of properties acquired by the government during the construction of the Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway (TPLEX).
This, after some farmers and landowners blocked the Pozorrubio Exit of the TPLEX in Pangasinan last Friday, demanding full payment for their properties which were acquired by the government from 2015 to 2017.
The government claimed that "a large part of the problem" was due to incomplete documents submitted by claimants causing delay in review and payments, San Miguel Corp said in a statement.
“We will advance the payment for the government. We understand the plight of the landowners, and also recognize the position of the government. But we would like to assure them that we are ready to resolve this issue and expedite payment,” said SMC president and chief operating officer Ramon Ang.
The company is working with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to "quickly resolve" issues and to compensate claimants, Ang said.
Landowners received partial payment for the acquisition as mandated by law. The DPWH, in March finished sending Letter Offers (LO) to purchase land at the appraised value, the statement said.
“It was agreed that DPWH would pay claimants with complete documents within a month’s time,” the statement said.
