LA TRINIDAD, Benguet - As Valentine's Day nears, prices of red roses sold at the Bahong flower farm have already tripled and are still expected to rise.
The price of a bundle of red roses has soared to P650 from the usual P200, with the rising demand for flowers as the day of hearts approached.
"As of now kasi malapit na iyong Araw ng mga Puso natin, February 14, so asahan natin na tataas nang tataas ang mga presyo ng bulaklak," Barangay Captain Belmer Elis of Bahong said.
Flower farmer Benjie Palangsian said sellers have begun stocking up on roses to keep these from wilting and to meet the high demand for flowers next week.
Palangsian said he aims to produce 500 bundles of red roses by Feb. 12 in time for Valentine's Day.
Last year, he said they were able to produce 800 bundles of red roses, but the cold temperature has caused a decrease in production.
Prices of red roses are expected to drop after Valentine's Day.
