Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co.'s (PLDT) mobile phone subscriber base breached the 35 million mark at end December 2008, the company told the local bourse on Thursday.
PLDT, the country's largest telecoms firm, reported that its cellular subsribers totaled 35.2 million as of last year.
Of the number, 20.9 million subscribers belonged to Smart Communications Inc. and 14.3 million to Pilipino Telephone Corp.'s Talk 'N Text.
Rival Globe Telecom ended last year with 24.7 million subscribers and a net profit of P11.28 billion.
PLDT is due to announce its earnings on March 3. The company had forecast a core profit of P37 billion for 2008, up 5 percent from the previous year despite slowing demand and higher costs.
In the first nine months of 2008, PLDT recorded a core net income of P27.8 billion.
