MANILA - President Rodrigo Duterte's infrastructure program has "very aggressive" targets, but construction can be done within his term, an official said Tuesday.
Duterte's P8 trillion "build build build" pipeline includes a subway system for Metro Manila, Mindanao's first ever railway and new airports and bridges.
"There is no problem with funding. Right now, we are working on making sure the budget is spent well," Public Works Undersecretary Karen Jimeno told a FinanceAsia forum for investors.
Jimeno said "challenges" to the infrastructure program include the bidding process and ensuring high quality contractors are brought in.
"We have to assess what makes this process too long," she said.
The procurement law also limits the pool from which government can tap builders, she said.
The first phase of the Metro Manila Subway, is scheduled for roll out under the Duterte government, Jimeno said.
