TOKYO - Sony Corp. has announced that it will release on Feb. 16 a new Walkman W series headset with enhanced waterproof capabilities enough to enable swimmers to listen to music.

The NWD-W273 weighs about 29 grams and is estimated to retail for around 10,000 yen. The lightweight wearable music player can store 2,650 songs and is also fit for runners and other athletes, Sony said.

The latest Walkman is designed to hold up during intense workouts and for depths of up to 2 meters underwater for 60 minutes after being recharged for three minutes. The previous version had a water-resistant property.
